L-Citrulline Memory Claims: What the HoneyPezil Label Shows
L-citrulline in HoneyPezil is two label lines: L-citrulline HCl 100 mg and L-citrulline malate 100 mg per capsule, at most 200 mg of citrulline ingredients together. We found no memory trial of citrulline at any dose. Studies used grams a day for exercise and blood pressure, at least 30 times more.

What is L-citrulline in HoneyPezil?
L-citrulline is an amino acid, and HoneyPezil prints it on two lines: L-citrulline HCl 100 mg and L-citrulline malate 100 mg. They are lines 5 and 6 of the seven.
HCl means hydrochloride, a salt form. Malate means citrulline joined to malic acid. The label does not say how much of the malate line is citrulline, so the honest total is at most 200 mg of citrulline ingredients.
The body turns citrulline into arginine, the amino acid on lines 3 and 4. That link is why the two are sold together. The label makes no claim about it; its only front line is "Advanced Memory Support*".
| Name on the label | L-Citrulline HCl |
|---|---|
| What it is | Amino acid, hydrochloride form; the body turns citrulline into arginine |
| Place on the label | 5 of 7 lines, in label order |
| Amount per 1-capsule serving | 100 mg per capsule as L-citrulline HCl |
| Daily Value | Not established |
| Amount used in research | Up to 6,000 mg a day for 4 weeks in short safety studies (NIH); gram doses in exercise and blood pressure trials |
| How the label compares | Together with the malate line, citrulline ingredients add up to at most 200 mg: at least 30 times below 6,000 mg |
| Strength of evidence | No memory trial of citrulline was found in the sources checked; exercise and blood flow results are mixed |
| Marketed or traditional use | Sold as a 'blood flow' amino acid that raises arginine |
| Main caution | Mild stomach discomfort is the main reported effect at gram doses. Blood pressure results in citrulline analyses disagree. Ask a doctor if you take blood pressure medicine. |
| Name on the label | L-Citrulline Malate |
|---|---|
| What it is | Citrulline bound to malic acid. The label does not print how much of the 100 mg is citrulline |
| Place on the label | 6 of 7 lines, in label order |
| Amount per 1-capsule serving | 100 mg per capsule; the citrulline share is not printed |
| Daily Value | Not established |
| Amount used in research | 8,000 mg of citrulline malate in one exercise study (NIH); up to 6,000 mg a day for 4 weeks in short safety studies |
| How the label compares | At least 80 times below 8,000 mg |
| Strength of evidence | No memory trial of citrulline malate was found; exercise results are mixed |
| Marketed or traditional use | Sold for 'pump' and endurance |
| Main caution | Same cautions as citrulline HCl. Stomach discomfort is the most reported effect at gram doses. |
The research02
Does L-citrulline help memory?
We found no study showing that L-citrulline helps memory, at any dose. The research we found is about exercise and blood pressure.
In 20 healthy volunteers, citrulline raised blood arginine more than arginine itself did at gram doses, yet no regimen changed a blood vessel test (Schwedhelm 2008, Citrulline vs arginine in the body). A review of exercise trials called the effects on performance and blood flow inconsistent and the evidence scarce (Gonzalez and Trexler 2020, Citrulline review). Two blood pressure analyses disagree: one found a drop of a few points at 3 to 9 g a day, the other found no significant change (Barkhidarian 2019, Citrulline and blood pressure) (Mirenayat 2018, Citrulline and blood pressure (no effect)).
NIA says no vitamin or supplement is currently recommended for preventing cognitive decline (NIA, Cognitive health and older adults). No source tests HoneyPezil itself.
The dose gap03
How much L-citrulline is in HoneyPezil compared with studies?
At most 200 mg per capsule, at least 30 times below the 6,000 mg a day used for 4 weeks in short NIH-listed safety studies.
The NIH also lists one exercise study with 8,000 mg of citrulline malate (NIH ODS, Exercise and athletic performance supplements). The malate line alone, at 100 mg, is at least 80 times smaller. These are exercise findings. We do not say 200 mg is "too low to work": no study tested it.
| Source | Amount per day | Gap |
|---|---|---|
| HoneyPezil, HCl plus malate | at most 200 mg | - |
| Short safety studies, 4 weeks | up to 6,000 mg | at least 30 times |
| One exercise study, malate | 8,000 mg | malate line: at least 80 times |

Are there L-citrulline side effects or medicine interactions?
Mild stomach discomfort is the main effect reported at gram doses, and up to 6 g a day for 4 weeks caused no adverse effects in short studies (NIH ODS, Exercise and athletic performance supplements).
The medicine question is less settled. Citrulline raises arginine in the blood, and arginine can add to the drop from nitrates, erection medicines and blood pressure medicine (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine). We found no interaction study of 200 mg of citrulline, so the cautious step is to ask. The same label also holds arginine.
- Taking nitrates, an erection medicine, or blood pressure, diabetes or blood thinner medicine? Ask your pharmacist first.
- Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed. Never stop it because of a supplement.
- Pregnant, nursing, under 18 or with a known condition? The label says to ask a physician.
What is not printed05
What does the HoneyPezil label not say about citrulline?
It does not print the citrulline share of the malate line, and it does not publish a lab report. Both gaps matter when you compare it with a study.
Studies list grams of citrulline or of citrulline malate. A malate salt also includes the weight of malic acid, so with no share printed, the 100 mg line may hold less than 100 mg of citrulline. That is why we write "at most".
Check the Supplement Facts on your bottle against this site. If they differ, see which label is on your bottle. Compare all seven lines on the label vs studies page, and read the L-arginine page next to this one.
FAQ06
HoneyPezil questions people ask
How much L-citrulline is in one HoneyPezil capsule?
One capsule lists L-citrulline HCl 100 mg and L-citrulline malate 100 mg. The label does not print the citrulline share of the malate line, so the total is at most 200 mg of citrulline ingredients.
Does HoneyPezil L-citrulline help memory?
No study tested it. The label says "Advanced Memory Support*" with an asterisk to the FDA statement. We found no memory trial of citrulline at any dose, and NIA recommends no supplement for preventing cognitive decline.
What is the difference between L-citrulline HCl and malate?
HCl is a hydrochloride salt of citrulline. Malate joins citrulline to malic acid. Both are sold as citrulline sources, but the label prints only the weight of each line, not the citrulline inside.
What is L-citrulline malate used for?
It is sold for exercise and blood flow. Research on those uses is mixed, and the studies used grams a day. None was a memory trial, and none tested HoneyPezil.
Does citrulline turn into arginine?
Yes. The body converts citrulline into arginine, and in one study of 20 volunteers citrulline raised blood arginine more than arginine did at gram doses. That study did not test 100 mg or memory.
Can I take L-citrulline with blood pressure medicine?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Citrulline raises arginine, which can add to the effect of blood pressure medicine and nitrates. Keep taking prescribed medicine as directed.
